Daily Board XXIII Interview

1. When did you know you wanted to be part of the Daily Board of Flow?

Lucas: "That would have been around early April. I had been debating doing a board year for a while, whether it was with Flow or another association. In the end, I chose Flow on the deadline itself, and it turned out to be an incredibly good decision."

Laura: "During my exchange in Oslo, I spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted to do for my master's after my bachelor's in Communication and Information Sciences (CIS). I mentioned to my roommate there how fun it would be to complete my student life with a board year. Sometime later, I became more and more enthusiastic about the idea, and during the study trip to Madrid, I was pretty much sold. When I decided also to do my master’s in CIS, I finally decided to split it into two years, with one of those being my board year."

Nicole: "Actually, I had been thinking about joining the Daily Board for a while, but I never really took it seriously—it is quite a big commitment to make for a whole year. When I happened to talk with other Flow members about it in April/May, I seriously considered that it might be something for me. Eventually, I decided to take the plunge, and it is one of the best decisions I have made!"

2. What are you most looking forward to this year?

Lucas: "I am really excited about the Sintercantus this December. If only to see Ella dressed up as Sinterklaas."

Ella: "I think I am most excited about all the unique experiences that only come with a board year. Even though I will mostly be listening during events, you are invited to things you would never attend otherwise, which is really cool."

Nicole: "I have been on study trips to Copenhagen and Malmö, as well as Madrid, and I absolutely loved both trips—so I am really looking forward to this year’s trip as well, especially now that I am part of the Daily Board! I am also excited about the city trip to Lille, where I will be helping with the organization as part of the Weekend Committee—it promises to be a weekend full of great memories!"

3. What will be the biggest challenge?

Joey: "My biggest challenge will probably be the Career Days that we organize together with the university. It is the largest professional event we are involved in, and I expect it will require a lot of work."

Ella: "I think my biggest challenge will be keeping an overview for myself and not jumping from task to task without completing anything."

Laura: "Combining my master's with a board year. The master's program works with blocks instead of semesters, which means the pace is twice as fast. So, besides carrying responsibility for Flow, I also need to keep up with my group assignments. My secret goal is to try to graduate Cum Laude since I just missed out on that during my bachelor's."

4. What is your ultimate goal during your board year?

Laura: "As Internal Affairs, I am, of course, heavily involved in Flow's socials. My ultimate goal is to break the record number of likes with a post. Maybe not the most exciting goal, but if I succeed, I will certainly be proud."

Rein: "My ultimate goal during my board year is to organize as many fun and informative activities as possible for the members, so they can gain a lot of experience alongside their studies."

Nicole: "Normally, I get distracted easily and find it hard to plan tasks that need to be done. I am noticing that during my board year, I really have to stay on top of this, and I am getting better at it. By the end of the year, I hope to be the most productive version of myself!"

5. Which Flow activity should people absolutely not miss this year?

Rein: "The Flow activity that people absolutely should not miss is the Study Trip. It is such a fun trip where you discover a beautiful new location and make friends for life."

Joey: "The Flow & Co cantus."

Lucas: "There is really only one correct answer, and that is the Study Trip. It is always one of the highlights of the year for Flow. This year, I am the board buddy of the Study Trip Committee, and I can assure you that it is going to be absolutely amazing again this year."

6. How would you describe your board year so far in three words?

Lucas: "Variety, dedication, and chatting".

Ella: "Fun, busy, and social".

Laura: "Challenging, awesome, and fun".

7. Do you have a message for our members?

Lucas: "If you are still unsure about doing a board year, go for it! You completely change your year to focus on the association, but all the energy you put in comes back to you tenfold. It is not a decision to take lightly, but if you are confident in your choice, you will have an amazing year".

Laura: "Go to activities even if you do not know anyone. This way, you develop yourself socially and overcome social anxieties. Plus, it is always super fun, and everyone welcomes you with open arms! So, dare to take the step! :)"

Rein: "Keep pushing through to pass all your courses this year, even if you don’t feel like it at times. You will thank yourself later"!
